Venerable Edwin Ward, LVO

The Venerable Edwin Ward, LVO, Archdeacon of Sherborne, 1968-84; Archdeacon Emeritus and Canon Emeritus of Salisbury Cathedral since 1985, died at his home 22 November, 2005. He was aged 86.
Edwin James Greenfield Ward was born 26 October, 1919, the elder son of Canon Frederick Greenfield Ward, MC, latterly of Canberra, Australia, and was educated at St John's, Leatherhead; Christ's College, Cambridge (MA).
Career: ->served in the King's Dragoon Guards, 1940; Reserve 1946; Ordained a priest, 1948; Vicar of North Elmham, Norfolk, 1950-55; Chaplain, Royal Chapel, Windsor Great Park, 1955-67; Rector of West Stafford 1967-84; Member of the Council of Marlborough College, 1969-88; Visitor, Milton Abbey School, 1991-94 (Member of the Board of Governors, 1983-91), &c. He was Chaplain to the Queen, 1955-89 (since when Extra Chaplain to HM) and he was appointed LVO in 1963.
He lived in retirement at Alresford, Hampshire. He married 4 Sept, 1946, Grizell Evelyn (b. 18 July, 1919; d. 1985), scion of the Buxton Baronets, daughter of Capt. Harry Gurney Buxton (1871-1936), by his wife Evelyn Musgrave Harvey, by whom he had a son, Simon Andrew Buxton Ward, born in 1952, and 2 daughters, Joanna Grizelda, b. 1947, and Alison Bridget, MBE, b. 1950. The younger daughter is Baroness Wakeham, second wife since 1985 of Baron Wakeham, former Tory Cabinet Minister and Chairman of the Press Complaints Commission (who lost his first wife in the Brighton Bomb 1984).
A Service of Thanksgiving will be held at St John's, New Alresford, Hants, Saturday 10 December, 2005.
