Baron Burnett

The life peerage awarded to John Patrick Aubone Burnett has been gazetted in the name, style and title of Baron BURNETT, of Whitchurch in the County of Devon. (Source: Daily Telegraph 2 June 2006). He was born 19 Sept 1945, son of Lt-Col Aubone Burnett, OBE, by his wife the former Joan Bolt, and educated at Ampleforth College. Career: served in the Royal Marines 1964-70; admitted a solicitor, 1975; Partner, the Senior Partner, Burd Pearse, Okehampton, 1976-97; Member of the Law Society Revenue Law Committee, 1984-96; sometime Liberal Dem MP for Devon West and Torridge; farmer from 1976; married 1971, Elizabeth Sherwood de la Mare, daughter of Sir Arthur James de la Mare, KCMG, KCVO, British Ambassador to Thailand, 1970-73 (b. Jersey, Channel Islands, 15 Feb, 1914; d. Jersey, 15 Dec 1994: Source. D.Telegraph 19 Dec 1994), by his wife Katherine Elizabeth. Sir Arthur's father was Walter de la Mare, of Jersey...
