Baroness Butler-Sloss, DBE

The life peerage awarded to Dame Elizabeth Butler-Sloss DBE (1979), PC (1988) has been gazetted in the name, style and title of Baroness BUTLER-SLOSS, of Marsh Green in the County of Devon. (Daily Telegraph 15 June 2006). She was born Ann Elizabeth Oldfield Havers, 10 Aug 1933, daughter of Sir Cecil Havers, QC by his wife Enid Snelling, and a sister of Sir Michael Havers, The Baron Havers, sometime Lord High Chancellor of Gt Britain. Dame Elizabeth was President of the Family Division from 1999; married 1958, Joseph William Alexander Butler-Sloss (b. 16 Nov 1926) Chairman, 1992 Delimitation Commission, Botswana, 1992-93, son of Francis Alexander Sloss by his wife Alice Mary Frances Violet Patchell. Baroness Butler-Sloss's husband was a Barrister, a Recorder 1972-84, a Judge of the High Court of Kenya 1984-90; Hon Editor, The Irish Genealogist, 1993-2001, &c.
