Alan Lillingston 1935-2014

_. Alan Lillingston, of Mount Coote, Kilmallock, co Limerick, who died 26 July, 2014, aged 79, was a scion of the Inge-Innes-Lillingston landed family of Thorpe Constantine.

He was born 27 Feb, 1935, and educated at Eton, only son of Capt Luke Theodore Lillingston (1907-44), by his wife the former Susan Margaret Trelawney Seaton (d 1952). He married 12 July, 1962, the Lady Vivienne Margaret Nevill (b 15 Feb, 1941), second daughter of the 5th Marquess of Abergavenny, KG (1914-2000), by his wife the former Mary Patricia Harrison (Patricia Marchioness of Abergavenny, DCVO), by whom he had issue,two sons, Luke and Andrew, and two daughters, Georgina and Sophie.

Sir Claude Arthur Philip Mallet du Cros, 3rd Baronet 1922-2014

_. Sir Claude Philip Arthur Mallet Du Cros, 3rd Baronet, died at Ballaugh, Isle of Man, 24 July, 2014. He was 91.

Sir Claude {Bart, UK, cr 1916} was born 27 Dec, 1922, son of Sir Philip du Cros, 2nd Baronet (1898-1975), by his 1st wife the former (Matilda) Dita Mallet, dau of Sir Claude Coventry Mallet, CMG.

Succeeded to the baronetcy on his father's demise, 1975; married (1) 20 June, 1953 (div 1974), Christina Nancy, former wife of George Tordoff, and daughter of F.R. Bennett, of Spilsbury, Lincolnshire, by whom he had one son, Julian. He married 2ndly, 1974 (div 1982) Margaret Roy, daughter of Roland James Frater, of Gosforth, Northumberland.

The baronetcy is now inherited by his son, Julian Claude Arthur Mallet du Cros, who was born 23 Apr, 1955.

Vernon-Harcourt (nee Hall), wife of the Hon Oliver Thomas Vernon-Harcourt (b 1977) , 3rd son of  the 11th Baron Vernon (b 20 Oct, 1939), (Baron, GB, cr 1762) by his wife the former Cherry Corbin, gave birth to a daughter, Ottilie Beatrix, 9 July, 2014, a sister for Poppy, Edward and Albert.

Mrs Vernon-Harcourt is a daughter of Mr & Mrs Kenneth Hall of Crewkerne, Somerset.

The 7th Baron Methuen 1931-2014

_. The 7th Baron Methuen (Peerage of the UK, cr 1838), died 9 July, 2014. He was 82.

Robert Alexander Holt Methuen was born 22 July, 1931, a younger son of Anthony Paul Methuen, 5th Baron (1891-1975), by his wife the former Grace Durning Holt (d 1972), and succeeded to the peerage on the death of his elder brother, 24 Aug, 1994.

Lord Methuen was one of the elected hereditayr peers (Lib Dem) and served as a deputy Speaker, House of Lords.

He was twice married, firstly, 10 May, 1958 (div 1993) Mary Catherine Jane Hooper, daughter of the Archdeacon of Ipswich; married 2ndly, 8 Jan, 1994, Magrit Andrea Hadwiger.

Lord Methuen leaves two daughters from his 1st marriage, Charlotte & Henrietta.

The peerage now devolves upon his Lordship's cousin, James Paul Archibald Methuen-Campbell, who was born 25 Oct, 1952.

Sir (William) John Colfox, 2nd Baronet 1924-2014

_. Sir (William) John Colfox, 2nd Baronet (Bart, UK, cr 1939), died 12 July, 2014. He was 90.

He was born 25 Apr, 1924, son of Sir (William) Philip Colfox, MC, 1st Baronet (1888-1966), by his wife the former Mary Frances Symes-Bullen, scion of that landed family, dau of Lt-Col John Symes-Bullen.

He married 13 January, 1962, Frederica Loveday Crutchley, scion of that landed family, only dau of Admiral Sir Victor Crutchley, VC, KCB, DSC, DL, by whom he had issue, two sons and two daughters.

John Colfox succeeded to the baronetcy on his father's demise, 8 Nov, 1966. He in turn is succeeded by his elder son, Philip John, who was born 27 Dec, 1962.

{Jeremy} Ulick Browne, 11th Marquess of Sligo 1939-2014

_. The 11th Marquess of Sligo (Peerage of Ireland, cr 1800), died at his home, Westport House, County Mayo, 13 July, 2014. He was 75.

He was born Jeremy Ulick Browne, 4 June, 1939, son of the 10th Marquess (1908-91), by his wife the former Jose Gauche, dau of William Gauche, and was styled Earl of Altamont from 1952. He succeeded to the peerages on the death of his father, 11 Sept, 1991.

Lord Sligo married 26 Oct, 1961, Jennifer June Lushington Cooper, only dau of Maj George Derek Cooper, MC, by his first wife  the former Pamela Armstrong-Lushington-Tullochj, by whom he had five daughters.

The marquess is succeeded by his cousin, Sebastian Ulick Browne, a great~grandson of the 5th Marquess of Sligo.

Death of Lady Raglan, wife of the 6th Baron

_. The Baroness Raglan, who died at her home 5 July, 2014, was the wife for 58 years of Geoffrey Somerset, 6th Baron Raglan (born 29 Aug, 1932) (Peerage of the UK, cr 1852).

She was the former Caroline Rachel Hill, the only daughter of Colonel (Edward) Roderick Hill, DSO, and married the then Geoffrey Somerset, 6 Oct, 1956. Her husband, a younger son of the 4th Baron (1885-1964), succeeded to the peerage on the death of his elder brother, 24 January, 2010. 

Lady Raglan is survived by her husband and by 2 daughters, Belinda and Lucy. Her only son, the Hon Arthur Geoffrey Somerset, who was b 27 Apr, 1960, died 25 July, 2012.

A Service of Celebration of her life will be held at St Denys Church, Stanford in the Vale, Oxfordshire, 6 Aug, 2014.

Death of Joan, Baroness Clydesmuir, widow of the 2nd Baron

_. Joan Baroness Clydesmuir, who died 9 July, 2014, at Whim Hall, Lamancha, was the widow of the 2nd Baron Clydesmuir, KT, CB, MBE (1917-96) (Peerage of the Uk, cr 1948).

She was the former Joan Marguerita Booth, 1st daughter of Lieutenant-Col Ernest Brabazon Booth, DSO, of Darver Castle, co Louth, and married the then Ronald John Bilsland Colville, 10 Apr, 1946. Her husband succeeded his father as 2nd Baron Clydesmuir, 31 Oct, 1954, and died 2 Oct, 1996.

Lady Clydesmuir leaves issue, 2 sons. The elder son, David (b 8 Apr, 1949) os 3rd holder of the peerage.

A Thanksgiving Service will be held at Biggar Kirk, Friday 18 July, 2014.

Capt North Edward Frederick Dalrymple Hamilton of Bargany, CVO, MBE, DSC 1921-2014

__.Capt North Edward Frederick Dalrymple Hamilton, CVO, MBE, DSC, who died suddenly at Ayr, 8 July, 2014, aged 92, was a scion of the Earls of Stair (Earl, cr 1703). Capt Dalrymple Hamilton, of Bargany, Girvan, Ayrshire, a close friend of HM The Queen, was executive officer, Royal Yacht Britannia 1958-60, 

He was born 17 Feb, 1922, a godson of the then Prince of Wales (later Edward VIII and Duke of Windsor), son of Admiral Sir Frederick Dalrymple Hamilton, KCB 1890-1974, by his wife Gwendolen (d 1974), dau of Sir Cuthbert Peek, 2nd Baronet. A sister, Graeme Elizabeth, born in 1926, was a goddaughter of the then Duchess of York (afterwards Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother) &c.

He married 1stly, 23 July, 1949, the Hon Mary Helen Colville (d 1981), daughter of the 1st Baron Clydesmuir, PC, GCIE, by whom he had issue; married 2ndly, 1983, Geraldine Inez Antoinette, widow of Maj Rowland Beech, MC, and dau of Maj Frank Harding.

He leaves two sons from his 1st marriage, North John Frederick, who served as a Page of Honour to the Queen Mother 1964-66, and James Hew Ronald.

Baroness Farnham 1939-2014

__. The Baroness Farnham, who died at her home, 3 July, 2014, was the wife of Simon, 13th Baron Farnham (Barony in the Peerage of Ireland, cr 1756).

She was the former Karol Anne Prior-Palmer, a dau of Maj~Gen George Erroll Prior-Palmer, CB, DSO, of Appleshaw House., Andover, Hampshire, and married Simon Kenlis Maxwell in 1964. Her husband succeeded his elder brother as thirteen baron, 22 March, 2001.

Lady Farnham is survived by her husband, two sons, and one daughter.

___. Louisa Cheape (nee Blair), wife of Henry Bruce Iain Ismay Cheape (b 1980), the 8th head of the gentry family of Strathtyrum and heir to his father as 3rd of Fossoway, gave birth to a son, John. 5 July, 2014.

Henry Cheape is the son of Angus Geoffrey Bruce Ismay Cheape, late the Scots Guards, of Kinross, by his former wife the former Emma Margaret Tennant (b 1954 now Lady Stevens, wife of Sir Jocelyn Stevens, Knt), scion of the Barons Glenconner, & Louisa Cheape is a daughter of Mr & Mrs Hew Blair, of Earlston, Berwickshire.

Mary Duchess of Roxburghe 1915-2014

Mary, Duchess of Roxburghe, who died 2 July, 2014, aged 99, was the first wife of the late George, 9th Duke of Roxburghe (1913-74), and was a scion of the extinct Marquesses of Crewe.

The Duchess was a patron of the Royal Ballet.

She was born Lady Mary Evelyn Crewe-Milnes (23 March, 1915), youngest daughter of the 1st Marquess of Crewe, KG, PC (1858-1945), by his second wife, the former Lady Margaret Primrose (1881-1967), daughter of the 5th Earl of Rosebery.

She married 24 Oct, 1935 (div 1953), the 9th Duke of Roxburghe. No issue. The Duchess held the Queen's canopy at the Coronation of King George VI, 12 May, 1937, and must be one of the last surviving of those in Westmister Abbey on that day.

Thomas Hardman is the only son of Mr Blaise Noel Anthony Hardman (b. 24 Dec 1939), of Stapleford, Wiltshire, by his wife, the former Caroline Cameron, daughter of Sir Donald Cameron of Lochiel, KT, Chief of the Clan Cameron, & Joanna is the youngest daughter of Mr Robin Rumboll, of St Lawrence, Jersey, and Mrs Guy Lort-Phillips, of Grouville, Jersey, 2nd wife of Guy Stewart Lort-Phillips (b. 1930), scion of that LG family (who is the grandson maternally of Gut Stewart St. Aubyn, of the Barons St. Levan.

She was born 7 September, 1917, fourth daughter (twin with her sister Moyra) of the 7th Earl of Courtown (1877-1957), byt his wife the former Cicely Mary Birch; married 3 May, 1947, Cdr Thomas Frederick Philip Urquhart Page, RN (who died 24 Oct, 1994), scion of that landed family, son of Sir Leo Page, by whom she had issue, a son and two daughters.

Sonja Baroness Hollenden c1919-2014

_. Sonja, Baroness Hollenden, who died 24 June, 2014, aged 95, was the widow of Gordon Hope-Morley, 3rd Baron Hollenden (1914-99) (Peerage of the UK, cr 1912).

She was the former Sonja Sundt, daughter of Thorlf Sundt, of Bergen, Norway, and married Gordon Hope-Morley, 27 Oct, 1945. Her husband succeeded as 3rd Baron on the death of his uncle in Oct 1977, and he died 12 April, 1999. The couple had three sons, Ian,now 4th holder of the barony, Robin (deceased) and Andrew.

Christopher Gordon Edward Stopford 1953-2014

_. Christopher Gordon Edward Stopford, who died 23 June, 2014, aged 60, was a scion of the Earls of Courtown (Earl, Ireland, cr 1762), a grandson of the 7th Earl (1877-1957)

He was born 18 Dec, 1953, second son of the Hon Edward Richard Barrington Stopford (1914-90), by his wife the former Ann Marie Elizabeth Douglas Henderson, dau of Brig. Harold Henderson, CBE.

Mr Stopford, who was unm, is survived by a brother, Michael, and a sister, Penelope.

Funeral at the Chilterns Crematorium, Amersham, Bucks, 8 July.
